หลายคนได้เคยประสบกับแผ่นดินไหวครั้งแรกจากเหตุการณ์ครั้งล่าสุดที่เกิดขึ้น แม้เหตุการณ์จะเกิดขึ้นเพียงระยะเวลอันสั้น แต่ก็เพียงพอให้เกิดความตื่นตระหนก หลายคนรีบวิ่งออกจากบ้าน วิ่งลงจากตึกเป็นสิบชั้น ทั้งที่บางคนไม่แน่ใจด้วยซ้ำว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้น แต่บางคนก็อยู่เฉยๆโดยไม่ได้กังวลอะไร
เหตุการณ์นี้สะท้อนถึงสิ่งที่นักจิตวิทยาเรียกว่า "Yerkes-Dodson Law" หรือ “กฎความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความตื่นตัวกับประสิทธิภาพ” ซึ่งอธิบายว่า คนเราจะทำงานหรือรับมือกับสถานการณ์ได้ดีที่สุดเมื่อมีระดับความตื่นตัว หรือ "ความกังวล" อยู่ในระดับ พอเหมาะ ไม่มากเกินไป ไม่น้อยเกินไป
ลองนึกภาพเป็นกราฟรูปโค้งกลับหัว (inverted U) ที่ปลายด้านซ้ายคือความกังวลต่ำมาก ซึ่งคุณอาจเฉื่อยชา ไม่สนใจสัญญาณเตือน ในขณะที่ปลายด้านขวาคือความกังวลสูงเกินไป ซึ่งคุณอาจตื่นตระหนก คิดอะไรไม่ออก และตอบสนองผิดพลาด ส่วนตรงกลางคือจุดที่พอดีที่สุด คือ คุณตื่นตัวพอที่จะรับรู้และตัดสินใจอย่างมีสติ
ในบริบทของภัยพิบัติ เช่น แผ่นดินไหว ความกังวลจึงไม่ใช่เรื่องแย่ หากอยู่ในระดับที่ช่วยให้คุณ เตรียมตัว และ ตอบสนองอย่างเหมาะสม เช่น การรู้ทางหนีไฟ เตรียมชุดฉุกเฉิน หรือฝึกแผนรับมือเบื้องต้นไว้ล่วงหน้า ในทางตรงกันข้าม หากกังวลมากจนคิดแต่เรื่องเลวร้ายที่สุด อาจกลายเป็นภาวะเครียดสะสม โรคเครียดเฉียบพลัน หรือ PTSD ได้
คำแนะนำเบื้องต้น:
1. รู้จักสังเกตตัวเอง หากรู้สึกว่าตื่นกลัวหรือเฉยชาจนเกินไป ควรประเมินว่าอยู่ตรงจุดไหนของโค้ง Yerkes-Dodson Law
2. ฝึกหายใจลึก ๆ เพื่อช่วยควบคุมระดับความกังวลให้อยู่ในระดับที่จัดการได้
3. ตระหนักแต่ไม่ตระหนก การมีแผนสำรองและซ้อมรับมือ ทำให้จิตใจมั่นคงขึ้น
4. หาความรู้จากแหล่งที่เชื่อถือได้ เพื่อไม่ให้ข่าวลือหรือความไม่รู้เพิ่มความเครียดโดยไม่จำเป็น

กรมสุขภาพจิตได้ให้ความสำคัญในการพัฒนาเด็ก และเยาวชนให้เป็นคนไทย ๔.๐ เพื่อสนับสนุนการดำเนินงาน ของประเทศ คือ มีสติปัญญาดี มีความคิดริเริ่่มสร้างสรรค์ คิดแง่บวกและคิดทำประโยชน์ช่วยเหลือผู้อื่นและสังคม (Creation, Positive, Response to Society) หรือ คิดเป็น คิดดี คิดให้นั่นเอง ซึ่งสถาบันราชนุกูล เป็นหน่วยงานในสังกัด กรมสุุขภาพจิตที่่นอกจากให้บริการส่งเสริม รักษา ฟื้นฟู กลุ่มผู้บกพร่องทางพัฒนาการและสติปัญญา รวมถึงปัญหา สุุขภาพจิตเด็กและวัยรุ่นแล้ว ยังเป็นหน่วยงานที่่รับผิดชอบหลัก ในการขับเคลื่อนงานส่งเสริมสุขภาพจิตและป้องกันปัญหา สุุขภาพจิตกลุ่มปฐมวัยและวัยเรียนอีกด้วย
